2008 Cell Phone Policy
Because
of the abuse of our previous cell phone policy at Massillon
Christian School, we have had to revise the policy. Our new
policy requires that a "2008 Cell Phone Questionnaire" be filled
out and submitted by parents if your child is to bring a cell
phone to school. The questionnaire can be obtained from the
school or
downloaded here (PDF). (Download
Adobe Reader)
For your information, here is a list of
some of the abuses that took place under the previous policy:
- Cell phones (and other electronic
devises) were used during school hours, even though their
use was against policy.
- Students hid the cell phones from
the teacher's view during class (under books, in desks,
etc...) and used them when the teacher turned his/her back.
- Students used cell phones (and
digital cameras) to take unauthorized pictures that ended up
on the internet without the consent of the student or
parents.
- Students used phones to text or IM
during class
- Students used phones to access the
internet during class
- Students used phones to send and
receive emails during class
- Students asked for restroom passes
and used their phones to make calls instead of using the
restroom
- Cheating on tests by storing
answers, by texting other students and by searching the
internet.
Because of the above abuses, we will no
longer allow cell phones to be carried by the students. All cell
phones brought to school must be submitted to the office upon
your arrival and picked up when you leave the school property.
Any unauthorized use of electronic
devices in the school will result in the confiscation of the
device and will require a parent to pick them up from the
office.
We apologize for any inconvenience that
this new policy may cause, but after reviewing the list of
abuses, are sure that you understand the steps we must take to
insure a safe and fair academic environment for every student.
We deeply regret that the policy had to be changed because of a
handful of students decided to take advantage of our previous
policy.
If you have any other workable
arrangement, please contact the office. We understand the
importance and security of having your child carry a cell phone.
Massillon Christian
School 2008 Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones may be brought to Massillon
Christian School (MCS); however, they must be turned into the
office immediately upon entering the building and picked up from
the office when leaving school. While at school, no student may
carry a cell phone on his/her person or keep a cell phone in a
purse, backpack, student locker, etc...Using a camera phone to
take pictures on school property or on school buses is not
permitted at any time. Cell phones must be turned off on bus
trips and should be used only with the permission of the adult
in charge, or in case of an emergency.
Violation of this cell phone policy will
result in immediate confiscation of the phone and an appropriate
disciplinary action. All offenses will require a parent to pick
up the phone at the school office.
Massillon Christian School is not
responsible for lost, stolen or damaged cell phones.
The above policy is also applicable to
all other electronic devises, including, but not limited to
pagers, PDA's, Blackberries, digital cameras, etc., unless
prior written permission has been obtained from the school
administration. |
